Rich Franklin Gets a Rematch With Dan Henderson, But At What Weight?

July 21, 2009

Rich Franklin is on the verge of signing a big extension with the UFC. He’s also been given a rematch with Dan Henderson at UFC 103. Why and at what weight?

The last time they fought, it was at 205lbs at UFC 93. Henderson won, but it was close. Then he moved down to 185 to coach The Ultimate Figther and knock Michael Bisping out. Everyone thought that fight would set up the next challenger to the 185 pound throne.

Guess not. The UFC decided they needed a headliner for UFC 103.

Franklin’s last 4 fights since facing The Spider have been at 185, 205, 205 and 195. It’s seemed that he’s been focused on the heavier weight class. The 195-catchweight fight with Wanderlei Silva was on The Axe Murderer’s way down to 185. Will this be another catchweight fight that doesn’t improve either fighter’s standing in any weightclass?

I guess it doesn’t really matter. 205 is full of contenders waiting to get a shot at Machida. Rampage-Rashad seem to be next in line. A lot can happen in the next 6 months.

As for 185, how many guys deserve an initial shot at Silva before Hendo or Ace get a rematch? Will this fight be at 205 or 195 determine the next title contender? How many more unanswerable questions can I ask in one short post?

Will Rich Franklin ever avenge 100% of his career losses on his way to holding both the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight belts? Would that be the most impressive and improbable run in UFC history? Who knows!?

does anyone care? Rich needs to stay at 205, there is almost no reason to watch him fight Anderson a 3rd time.
