Previewish – UFC 100 – Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman

July 9, 2009

When there are UFC events, I’m going to do short previews for every single fight on the card individually. Or maybe just the fights schedule for the untelevised undercard. It’ll be a great chance to try and get to know the lesser known guys that fill out the spaces in the PPV shows that are created after quick stoppages. Sometimes, they make the PPV worth the buy.

Stephan “The American Psycho” Bonnar (11-5) vs. Mark “The Hammer” Coleman (15-9)

Light Heavyweights

The fact that this fight is on the undercard is a testament to how loaded a card we’re looking at. Bonnar was part of the fight that put the UFC on the map and Coleman is a UFC Hall-of-Famer. Neither have impressed of late, but these are two pretty big names to be relegated to the undercard.

Bonnar is coming off a loss to Jon Jones at UFC 94. It was his first fight back from a knee injury and he lost via unanimous decision. With a healthy knee, hopefully we’ll see the old Stephan Bonnar on Saturday night. We know we’ll be seeing the old Mark Coleman – but in a more literal sense.

Coleman is 44 years old. He lost to Shogun at UFC 93 at his unretirement party. If Bonnar is in anyway fit and ready to go, he’s going to kill Mark Coleman. Guys that can fight effectively into their 40’s are few and far between. I just don’t believe Coleman is one of those guys.
