Previewish – TUF 9 Finale – Melvin Guillard vs. Gleison Tibau

June 17, 2009

When there are UFC events, I’m going to do short previews for every single fight on the card individually. It’ll be a great chance to try and get to know the lesser known guys that fill out the spaces in the PPV shows that are created after quick stoppages. Sometimes, they make the PPV worth the buy.

Melvin “The Young Assasin” Guillard (21-7-2) vs. Gleison Tibau (17-6)

Lightweights

melvin-guillardMy first question – at what point does Melvin Guillard drop “young” from his nickname? (He’s 26) Guillard entered the UFC through TUF season 2 and is 4-3 inside the octagon. Awesome story about Guillard I wasn’t aware of – After he lost to Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 he accused Stevenson of using HGH. When the post-fight drug tests came back Guillard had tested positive for cocaine. He also had a win against Roger Huerta turned into a No Contest because his corner was caught greasing between rounds.

Tibau is 5-3 in the UFC, inlcuding 2 straight against Jeremy Stephens and Rich Clementi. According to Wikipedia, he often enters the cage weighting near 183 pounds which is sick. If you want to learn more about Gleison, visit his website. It’s coming soon. And its on fire!
