UFC 99 Fallout: Stefan Struve vs. Denis Stojnic

June 16, 2009

StefanStruveCutI’ve gotten a lot of hits from people searching for the Stefan Struve – Denis Stojnic video. This was the fight that left the octagon colored red on Saturday night. As you can see from the picture, Struve had a nasty cut opened up on his forehead. There’s another awesome picture with some more dried blood at MMATKO.

Despite the fact that you can see his brain (if you look close enough) he was able to make it out of the second round to flood the cage and eventually secure a rear naked choke for the win. You know you’ve earned your victory when you look like an assault victim.

This is one of those classic moments where the fighter looks terrible, but can say “You shoulda seen the other guy.” Then again, I don’t think Stojnic had a scratch on his entire body. He’ll just have to wash off the shame.

I guess Struve was right when he protested the stoppage in his first fight – he could have continued. As for Denis Stojnic, see ya later. It’s really too bad this fight didn’t make the show on Saturday, but that’s the price we have to pay for having to sit through some longer battles. The show went just about 3 full hours and we didn’t see anything from the undercard.

Zapruder-like footage taken from a grassy knoll in Cologne, Germany on Saturday is available at My Video Fight. As far as videos taken from the arena by someone not under the employ of the UFC, it’s pretty good quality. I would have posted it here, but again, WordPress and non-YouTube videos don’t really get along. I’ve got the HTML, that should be more than enough.

Anyway, I can’t wait to see Struve back inside the octagon. He obviously has a very punchable face. He’s 2-2 in mixing it up. Here’s another great picture from Bloody Elbow. Tell me you wouldn’t have loved to see this fight?
