Tim Sylvia Is Boxing Saturday Jens Pulver Thinks He’s In For A Surprise

June 11, 2009

Saturday in Alabama, Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia will fight former world champion boxer Ray Mercer – in a boxing match. It’s a curious choice to say the least. Sylvia is set to appear on Affliction’s next card on August 1st.

Cagewriter’s Steve Cofield asked Sylvia’s Miletich teammate and longtime friend Jens Pulver what he thought about Sylvia’s decision to start a boxing career, as well as what he thought about the timing.

Reading between the lines, Pulver is saying,

“I don’t know what the heck Tim is thinking. There’s a good chance he’s going to get knocked out by this older, yet still competitive, gentleman. In fact, there are many times when I question Tim’s actions. *sighs* Such is life.”

Personally, I’ve always disliked Sylvia. Most of the time he’s boring and just uses his size to lean on people. (Brandon Vera for example. *shakes fist towards sky*) Sylvia is tall, awkward, plodding… need I go on? I’m sure he’s a wonderful person (As Pulver mentions, he’s the Godfather of his son.), but I don’t care for his brand of violence.

I won’t be watching this backwoods brawl, but I will be rooting for Mercer.

Count me in with you, CRM. I have never cared for Sylvia’s style and was happy the day Couture beat him.
