Previewish – UFC 99: Comeback – Paul Kelly vs. Rolando Delgado

June 9, 2009

When there are UFC events, I’m going to do short previews for every single fight on the card individually. It’ll be a great chance to try and get to know the lesser known guys that fill out the spaces in the PPV shows that are created after quick stoppages. Sometimes, they make the PPV worth the buy.

Paul “Tellys” Kelly (9-1) vs. Rolando “The Crazy Cuban” Delgado (6-3-1)

Lightweights

thecrazycubanPaul Kelly is making his debut at lightweight after going 2-1 inside the octagon in the Welterweight division. Despite this being Kelly’s 4th fight in the UFC, he’s yet to fight on American soil.  The only blemish on this Wolfslair Academy fighter’s resume is a loss to Marcus Davis at UFC 89 and that’s not really a blemish. Kelly is one of those guys who could just as easily be on the main card.

Rolando Delgado is a 6′ 3” lightweight. (What’s up with the scrawny guys on this card?) He may or may not be a black belt. I don’t really remember him from his time on TUF, but he lost twice – his preliminary fight, then following an injury to another fighter,  his first fight in the house. (The loss in the house was a 3-rounder to Junie Browning.) Delgado did win his official UFC debut when he choked out John “Buckets of Blood” Polakowski at the TUF 8 finale.

This should be a really interesting match up. I’m guessing that if Kelly can reach Delgado’s chin, he’ll K him the eff O.
